City of Water
Dates: March 1 – April 6, 2024
Location: Milan Water Central – MM Company Museum
We have learned from Science, for some time now, that 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered with water, including in this calculation the oceans, polar ice caps, lakes, rivers, groundwater and atmospheric water. For Claudio Onorato, perhaps, this percentage is not enough, and in his anxiety to fill the void, to crowd and cram every centimeter of the planet, he has transformed his cities, already very crowded, into underwater metropolises.
“City of Water” is an inspiring exhibition that explores the relationship between the city and the natural world. Claudio Onorato’s work is both beautiful and disturbing and challenges us to consider the impact of climate change on our planet. Paper, iron, steel give life to shapes that emerge from negative space, a flow of images that come into direct contact with the viewer. The resulting works describe a hybrid world that merges the city with the sea, combining metropolitan architecture with marine life. An exhibition of contemporary art at the Centrale dell’acqua in Milan, the first water museum in Italy.
